Good news to report! Slowly but surely the Preston Hollow neighborhood is getting put back together. And yes, for all of those inquiring minds, that includes the beloved Central Market on Royal Lane. It has been over a year since the October 2019 tornado tried to break our spirits, but we rolled with the punches, and are finally starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. As for my own house on Orchid? All of the framing has been done with the exception of a few tweaks. The new, steel roof is on, and we have decided to paint the soffit and fascia boards to match it. The rough electrical and plumbing are in and the even the drywall is in place. We are foaming everything from the walls to the attic and even the underbelly this time around in hopes of drastically reducing our electrical bills. I will keep you updated on how that plays out. As for the floors? We are going with tile as the main flooring element. Why, you might ask? Well, to put it candidly, I have grown tired of seeing people’s warped floors as a result of the Texas soil wreaking havoc on foundations. Of course, this isn’t anyone’s fault, however, when you know better, you make more informed decisions, right? We found some beautiful Terrazzo and cannot wait to see how it turns out. This process has given me a true appreciation for home builders, contractors, and every sub who shows up at my house daily. Honestly, I am not sure how my contractors put up with me as I know just enough to be dangerous. The biggest challenge for me has been trying to keep the mid-century modern bones and spirit of my home while all-the-while bringing it up to date.
